Dog Boarding Checklist & Costs
Many kennels add canine influenza ("dog flu") to their vaccine list. Here's what vets' professional groups say, and why you can't get it done the week before your trip.
Since the doses go 2–4 weeks apart, a dog that has never had the shot needs to start the series several weeks before boarding. Kennels set their own rules on whether the second dose must be finished, and how many days before check-in. Get that in writing from the kennel, then ask your vet to schedule backward from your drop-off date.
AVMA says boarding facilities and daycares raise exposure risk. Infected dogs can spread the virus before they look sick, and the cough often lasts 10–21 days.
